Wilderness and nearby Sedgefield offer a wide range of beautiful picnic spots, wether you are looking for a beach, forest or river view. Have a look at some of our favourite picnic spots in Wilderness and surrounds.

The Half Collared Kingfisher Trail

Discover the stunning trail just 3.1 km from Wilderness village, a favorite among locals and visitors alike. This 7.2 km round trip features a picturesque waterfall at the halfway point, perfect for your relaxing picnic.  An entrance fee is applicable, charged by SANPARKS the start of the trail. Enjoy nature’s beauty on this unforgettable hike!

Map of Africa

Only 2.3 km from Wilderness Village, is the well known launch site for paragliders. With breathtaking views of Wilderness and the ocean on one side, and  the impressive hills that resemble a map of Africa on the other this is a great place to relax with your picnic. Just a quick note: there are no ablutions at this site, so make sure to plan ahead!

Wilderness Beaches

Wilderness has some of the best unspoiled beaches you could ask for! With endless kilometers of sandy shores, it’s the perfect spot for a laid-back picnic and  some areas are dog-friendly too! And if you’re looking to take a dip, the Blue Flag beaches have lifeguards on duty during the holiday season to keep you safe while you swim.

The Woodville Big Tree

After following the sign from the N2 to Hoekwil travel 12km until you see the Woodville Big Tree sign on the left. There are two scenic circular trails: an easy 2,1 km walk and a longer 7 km hike with  great views.  The picnic site at the beginning of the trail has plenty of benches for you to enjoy your basket of goodies.This is a SANPARKS trail, there might be some entrance fees.

The Wilderness Lagoon

Enjoy your picnic on the grassy banks of  the Wilderness Lagoon or choose to relax on the sandy beach by the water’s edge. The tranquil lagoon is easily accessible from Waterside Road in Wilderness village, making it the perfect spot to unwind and soak in scenic beauty.

Victoria bay

Victoria Bay, a hidden gem just 4.5km from Wilderness along the N2 towards George. Known for its perfect waves, this sheltered bay is surfer’s paradise. The grassy areas by the beach provide an ideal spot for delightful picnic.

Sixth Avenue

Turn off the N2 at the Waves petrol station and then immediately left. Follow the road round to the right. At the fork in the road go right and travel along 6th Avenue until the very end. At the parking is the start of the boardwalk to the beach. Not far along the walkway you will see the deck and seating area with the most amazing sea and sunset views which is the destination for your picnic. As this is a public area we cannot guarantee privacy.

Sedgefield

Sedgefield is a picturesque coastal town located just a 20-minute drive from Wilderness along N2 towards Knysna. In addition to its stunning beaches, this charming town boasts a large lake which is popular with water-sport fans.  Sedgefield also a paradise for paragliding enthusiasts.  There are extensive options for a memorable  waters edge picnic.

Knysna

Knysna is a popular destination for adventure seekers  and holiday makers in the Garden Route, with a variety of affordable, luxury and exclusive activities for the discerning visitor. The sandy beaches and forest trails offer great choices for that unforgettable picnic.
